A year on!

March 22, 2013

Well it’s been just over a year since we took over at Caversham Heights Dental Practice and what a year it’s been! It’s been fun and exciting, but equally busy and challenging during our first year of business ownership. We thought we’d take this opportunity to write a blog about the past year.

Staff Changes
We had a great handover from Dave with him staying on until his eye problems forced him to retire in August of last year. It was really helpful having him stay on as an Associate for a few months and continue to pass on his knowledge and experience. Since then Dave has been enjoying his retirement and spending time with his grandchildren, that is when he’s not playing on his new tractor!

Other staff changes at the practice in the last year have been the arrival of Kirsten as hygienist. Kirsten brought a lot of fun and energy to the practice and was warmly received by the patients she has seen. Unfortunately however she is now moving on and we are delighted to welcome back Amanda, who will be returning in March. Amanda has had about a year off after the birth of Archie, her second child but is now ready to come back to work. We’re sure you will all hear her laugh echoing out of surgery 2 the next time you’re in.
Also this year we’ve had two work experience students with us, Charan was with us for a couple of weeks back in June and Chanel has been working a few hours each week for the last few months as part of her college course but has now moved on to her next placement at a local nursery. We’d like to thank them both for their contribution to the team whilst they were here.

Social Media

The last 12 months has seen us enter the modern world and attempt to get to grips with social media! Firstly we built a brand new website that now includes all sorts of information about the team, treatments, special offers, prices, what to do in an emergency etc. Please take a look when you have a moment –

We also now have a Facebook page and a Twitter account. By Liking and Following us on these it really is a great way to find out about what’s going on, such as closures for snow, or seeing some ‘Friday fun photo’s’, or equally being first in with a competition or special offer. You can tweet and follow us @CavDentist and please have a look at our Facebook page.

We also have links to our Pinterest board and Google+ sites from our website which are areas we are slowly getting into as well.

Practice Improvements
We purchased a brand new X-ray machine last year that links in with our IT network and consistently produces very high quality images quickly and accurately. From the patients’ perspective it means smaller more comfortable x-ray films in your mouth. It’s a real improvement and Katy and Karen are very pleased with the results it produces.
Those of you that have visited the practice recently will have seen the fabulous new pictures around the place. Staff and patients have really enjoyed Mary Colbeck’s, watercolours over the years and thank her enormously. We now have a new artist, Mike McGregor, whose pictures have given the practice a real change in appearance. It’s worth popping in just to have a look at them and if you particularly like a piece they are available to buy.

We’re trying to become more involved with the community of Caversham and take part in various activities and events. We’ve also introduced a sponsorship section to our website where we’d like to help out and sponsor local people in events or fundraising that they are involved in. From charity 5ks to walking the Thames path, please do get in touch if you think we can help.

Team news
I guess the biggest team news at the moment, and it’s hard not to notice, is that Katy is pregnant with our second little boy who is due in the middle of June. She’s currently planning on having around 3 months off and we’re working hard to make sure that there is sufficient cover in place for this short period.
Other team news, well we all had a fab night out at the Hexagon that Carol organised for us. We saw the Russian Ice Stars perform Cinderella, along with a few triple salko’s (sadly not quite so many triple vodka’s) we all had a good time.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their support and assistance during the past year. Our team of Karen, Suzanne, Carol, Kris, Kelly, Jennifer, Rachel, Nikki, Daniela, Rosemarie, Kristen, Amanda and not forgetting Dave have been wonderful and really welcoming. But also thank you to you, our patients, it’s been lovely to meet you and start to get to know you.
We look forward to seeing you over the next year

Best wishes
Katy & Pete x
