Emergency Appointments

Here at Caversham Heights Dental Practice we care about patients and if you have a dental problem we want to know. Our commitment to high quality care extends to our provision of an emergency service.

During practice opening times

If you have a problem requiring immediate attention, every effort is made to see you as soon as possible. Please call the practice on 0118 9474848 and explain the issue as best you can so that the receptionist can prioritise you accordingly.

We reserve time each day to be able to accommodate emergency patients at short notice. Please call us as early as possible, ideally before 10am to arrange an appointment.

Outside of practice opening times

Caversham Heights Dental Practice provides an emergency service for our regular patients who have an urgent problem outside of practice opening times. We belong to a small emergency rota of dentists, in all of whom we have great confidence; all are also registered with Denplan.

In an emergency, telephone this practice on 0118 9474848 and our answer phone will inform you of the rota details and the contact number (01189 421942). The covering dentist will then be able to advise you or arrange to see you if appropriate.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Severe pain
  • Trauma to teeth or mouth
  • Swelling in or around the mouth
  • Post-extraction bleeding that will not stop

Scenario Specific Advice

Lost crowns – Ideally crowns are best not left out for longer than a day or two as the space may close slightly, causing difficulties in re-cementing them.

Adult teeth that are knocked out – If you experience a blow to the mouth and an adult tooth is knocked out of the mouth it may be saved. Hold the tooth by the crown only, avoid touching the roots. Give it a quick rinse with water and push it back into the socket if possible. If not, keep it in either milk or in the cheek of your mouth so that it is kept moist. See a dentist as quickly as possible for them to relocate the tooth back into your mouth.
